Astrology: The Columbine Horoscope

Ten years ago today (20 April) two young Americans went on a killing spree. This is the horoscope for the time that the first bomb was set to detonate inside Columbine High School.

There are a few striking things in this chart. The first is the Mars/Saturn opposition. Traditionally these two are known as malefic planets. Malefic means causing evil. Mars and Saturn certainly lived up to their reputation here. This is a particularly nasty Saturn. It is combust, which basically means it is blinded. Saturn should act as conscience, or cause a person to take responsibility for their actions. None of that here. Sun and Saturn are both in fixed signs. The cards are laid out. There is no going back, this despite the fact that the first bomb in fact failed to go off.

Venus rules both the Sun and Saturn and is in opposition with Pluto. Gemini is linked to youthfulness – while Pluto is often the harbinger of tragedy and loss. Venus and Pluto are in double-bodied signs. Venus in the ambivalent Gemini – sign of the twins -brings out the manic side of Pluto in Sagittarius.

The Moon is a mystery. Placed here in its own sign Cancer one would expect some compassion and sensitivity. Though its square to Mercury is troublesome. Mercury is ruled by a vindictive Mars, strong here in its own sign Scorpio.

The Sun, Mars and Saturn all square Neptune. Neptune often plays a significant role in situations where there is mention of victims, particularly innocent victims. Neptune and Saturn here square, add a random, tragic quality to a particularly nasty mundane event.
